Oh Edinburgh (well Scotland in general…) how I love you! In mid October last year I spoilt myself with a trip to Edinburgh to visit friends. Leigh was the first girlfriend I ever made in life. We met at play-school when we were about 2, which gives us a grand total of 25 years of friendship.

As I’d been to Edinburgh before, sightseeing wasn’t high on my priority list. I wanted to spend a weekend like a local. So instead, we relaxed, caught up, had our nails done and went shopping (what did you expect? We are girls after all!).

On Saturday morning we went to a rather amazing little place called Maxi’s Cafe for breakfast. It has a distinctly shabby-chic feel to it with it’s mix-and-match tables and chairs, exposed concrete and broken tiles. It really felt like you were having breakfast in someone’s kitchen. Oh and the breakfast! I had French toast with bacon and maple syrup. It was like heaven in a mouthful! It was actually so good, we tried to recreate it the following morning at home.

The only touristy thing I did took place after breakfast. We went for a walk up Calton Hill to enjoy the views. If you haven’t visited Edinburgh before, I would definitely recommend you add it to your list of things to do. From the top, you have views of the castle, down Prince’s Street and up towards Arthur’s Seat.

While we were up there, I took the opportunity to snap a few relaxed portraits of Leigh and her hubby Carl. Ah, there is nothing better then having two happy people in love in front of my lens!

To Leigh and Carl, thank you so much for having me for the weekend. It was such a joy to catch up with you both and I am so looking forward to next time!

Thanks for the tip Max! I hadn’t really considered Edinburgh as a must-go! before but now I kinda really want to… And I just love the photo of Leigh and Carl laughing – there should be more of these uncontrolled lol’s in wedding photography – it just throws love out the screen!

Beautiful Maxeen x
